The luffa plant is a genus of the tropical and subtropical vine in the pumpkin, squash, and gourd family. The squash can be eaten like a zucchini when smaller, or dried at full size to become a luffa sponge. The luffa sponge requires 150-200 days of growing to become large enough to dry into a sponge.
